17th Century Chapel Discovered
County Hall Rediscovers 17th Century Chapel
County Hall is currently restoring a chapel that was used as a place of worship by the Council’s staff from 1955.

Special features include an ornate rail carved from 17th century Flemish oak and linen fold panelling which lined the walls surrounding the dais.
Due to lack of space in a more central position the chapel was built in part of an octagonal-shaped corridor beneath the Council Chamber. This could be accessed from the main entrance via a passage with panels depicting groups of choristers framed by borders of fruit and flowers.
