A Green Perspective
County Hall goes green
This year County Hall started experimenting with growing vegetables right in the heart of London. On the Terrace, overlooking the river Thames and a stone throw from the Big Ben, tomato plants are thriving. Vegetables are also grown in the subbasement of the building using the latest hydroponic technology.
Deep inside the building with stable temperature, it is possible to produce vegetables all year round without heating. Highly efficient LED grow lights are used, making it possible to use solar panels in the future. Working together with Zen farm of Normandy, France, County Hall could supply the vegetables to local restaurants in County Hall if the experiment is successful, but that would be another story. There are more ambitious plans flying around, watch this space.
